Dugtrio is a strange pokemon, but still a very powerful ground type.

The first thing you will notice about this animal is its three heads. It was once thought they were three diglett trplets staying close together but it has been proven that they are actually one creature and is why it is recognised as a seperate pokemon.

Scientists are still theorising about why three heads would benefit a subterranian animal such as this, theories are that while one head concentrates on digging the other two can eat insects and worms as it digs. Dugtrio would need a continuous and constant source of energy because it digs so fast through the earth, so it seems plausable that it would use its other heads to keep up its energy. Other scientists beleive it is some sort of evolutionary side effect from an ancestorial trait, and has no real use what so ever. The heads are joined and work as one mind rather than three individual ones. Three heads is not unique to the dugtrio but it is rare and scientists are still working on theories to explain this.

Their bodies are much larger than Diglett's and have larger front claws, though it is rare to see their body above ground level as they have symilar traits to Diglett.
They can dig to amazing depths without surcoming to underground pressures, one tunnel was found to stretch as deep as 60 metres below sea level. There have even been theories that Dugtrio have cause earthquakes by digging near to tectonic plates, though there is no substancial proof of this. One of the fastest diggers in the world they can reach up to 60 mph if in extreame open areas. They can reach these speeds by working both their back and front claws symoltaniously in a twisting motion and pushing their three heads back and forth to loosen the soil around them.
