Clefable’s are timid creatures and are hardly ever seen by humans. Clefable’s live mainly in large underground caves staying in small groups with Clefairy.
The large dark fur spikes are for show when in the mating season. They puff up their fur and shake them to the opposite sex. Clefable’s are part of a small minority in the animal world where both sex's present to each other to find a mate. Once they have found one they tend to stay with that mate for a few years and eventually move on.
They have the 'hidden gene' and evolve from Clefairy only when exposed to the radiation of a moon stone, one of the rarest stones.
It is thought they live in these dark caves to look for the stones and now scientists are trying to use 'tagged' Clefairy (small cameras attached) to see what their social structure is like deep in the caves, and to determine whether the rumours are true.
